Life Along the Rivers

One connected landscape. Many moments to notice.

The river’s story reaches beyond the water. Trees, open sky and the wildlife moving between them are part of the landscape we watch across the Anacostia, Southeast Washington and the nearby Lower Potomac.

Through Michael Garcia’s photographs, we follow three kinds of observation: an eagle at a perch, an eagle overhead and an encounter with another bird. These are views from our regional collection. The exact sites remain to be confirmed; the photographs themselves do not identify a particular river or nest.

Follow the landscape. Build the record.

A perched eagle, an overhead silhouette, another bird nearby: each sighting adds something to the record. Connecting those moments to a named place and date helps us understand how eagles use the landscape over time.

Carry the record forward

Note the perch, nearby habitat, flight direction and other wildlife present. Keep the visible action separate from an explanation. Michael’s photographs and the observations of people who know these places can help carry this local story forward.
