The Founder’s Journey

Witness.
Document.
Carry it forward.

Twan Woods came of age close to the work that helped restore the Anacostia River and bring bald eagles back to Washington, D.C. As a young Earth Conservation Corps member, he was not simply watching history happen—he was learning the river, participating in the work, and documenting what he saw through photography and video.

That perspective shaped a lifelong role: participant, witness, documentarian, and keeper of community memory. Twan’s Eagle Watch Foundation continues that journey as an independent organization devoted to preserving the history, documenting the present, and preparing young people to carry the story forward.

Learning the river from the inside

The river was never an abstract story to Twan. He saw restoration become action, watched the eagle story unfold, and understood early that cameras could preserve what memory alone might lose.

Over more than three decades, his connection to the Anacostia has grown across conservation, eagle observation, community storytelling, music, and media production.

One Continuous Story

From conservation work to community media

Each chapter builds on the last. The purpose has remained constant: learn the work, preserve the truth, and make the knowledge useful to the next generation.

01 · THE RIVER

Restoration

Early experience connected Twan to the Anacostia, the work along its banks, and the people who laid the foundation before the eagles returned.

02 · THE EAGLES

Observation

Years of watching and documenting Washington’s bald eagles turned field knowledge into a living public archive.

03 · THE MEDIA

Production

Photography, video, music, live production, and digital storytelling became tools for preserving community history and reaching wider audiences.

04 · THE FUTURE

Youth leadership

TAM Academy brings the journey forward by giving young people real responsibilities, real tools, and the confidence to tell stories of their own.

The Work Now

Production knowledge with a purpose

Twan’s experience extends from field documentation to professional media environments. During a football game in the production booth, the same principle is at work: understand the equipment, pay attention to the moment, and help deliver the story.

His most important next chapter is TAM Academy—an emerging youth program designed to introduce young people to camera operation, audio, directing, journalism, editing, media, and conservation through real responsibility.
